Rock tools for drilling holes from 17 to 51 mm in diameter using both hand-held and small rig-mounted rock drills*. Includes plughole drill steels, integral drill steels, tapered rods and cone bits, shank rods and the extension drilling tool systems R22, R23, R25, Alpha 250 and R28.

Shank rods, drifter rods, couplings, shank adapters and drill bits. Drifter rods have a powerful male thread at the impact end, and a smaller male thread at the bit end. MF drifter rods have a female thread at the impact end and are threaded to the shank adapter directly. Drill bits range typically from 35 to 57 mm in diameter. This product group also includes reaming equipment for drilling large-diameter relief holes in the cut.

Rock tools for all surface benching applications using tophammer rock drills. Drill bits, threaded drill rods, coupling sleeves and shank adapters for most makes of rock drill. Includes also tool systems in different dimensions for drilling holes from 51 to 152 mm in diameter, usually to depths of up to 25 meters.

Rock tools for long-hole underground production drilling using powerful rock-drills have to meet very strict criteria, since the holes, drilled mostly upward in fan-like patterns, can be 50 meters or more in depth and must be very straight in order to avoid dilution when blasting. Due to space limitations underground, rod length (or tube length) is much shorter than for bench drilling; 915, 1220, 1525 or 1830 mm (3, 4, 5 or 6 ft). Drill bits range from 51 to 115 mm in diameter.

- Foundation drilling tools

Sandvik OD and TUBEX tool systems enable simultaneous drilling-and-casing through overburden, passing easily through large boulders. Once the required depth is reached, the drill string is removed, leaving the casings in place to serve as channels for grout, cables or explosives. Sandvik OD casings are always reused. Since the casings used with TUBEX systems can be lightweight and inexpensive, they can be left in the hole and filled with concrete to serve as piles. Both systems permit continued normal drilling into the bedrock if required.

While every component in the drillstring is crucial, the shank adapter must be engineered to accept heavy treatment like no other. Its function is to transmit impact energy from the rock-drill piston, as well as rotation torque, into the drillstring with no losses. It must withstand and transmit up to 6300 blows per minute from the piston continually, with great endurance and dependability. With this in mind, Sandvik manufactures quality shank adapters for most brands of rock drill.

Regrinding drill bits at regular intervals can increase their service life 5 to 10 times over. Sandvik offers a complete range of grinders and grinding accessories, from small manual pneumatic grinders to stationary semi-automatic ones for economical grinding of large volumes of drill bits. Careful maintenance of the cemented carbide inserts in drilling tools improves almost all drilling parameters in rock drilling.
