Our history

Sandvik was founded in 1862 by Mr Göran Fredrik Göransson. In 1855 he purchased a small ironworks - Högbo Bruk - and shortly afterwards successfully produced the first high quality steel based on the Bessemer method. Later he acquired the rights to use this method when he first met Sir Henry Bessemer during a business trip to England. Sandvik gradually started manufacturing finished products, e.g., saws and tools, hollow drill steel and steel tubes.
